Food: beautiful on the inside

Did you know that we waste 1.3 billion tonnes of food together, every single year? Besides, the amount of food which is wasted worldwide is a third of the total produced. Due to this shocking news, there have been different organisations and companies who are trying to reduce this huge amount of squandering by taking some measures.

The essence

In January this year, British supermarket chain Asda introduced imperfect fruit and vegetables encouraged by Jamie Oliver and Jimmy Doherty. Asda created the ‘wonky veg box’ that include different fruits and vegetables which is enough to nourish a family of four for a whole week.

Wonky-veg

Asda’s Wonky Veg Box

Another example which is released a bit earlier is the Ugly Food Shop which is located in North Wales. The Ugly Food Shop is an initiative by students from the University of Bangor, who hope that the shoppers will adjust their opinion about imperfect food. They adopted the slogan ‘beautiful on the inside’, which is the main point according to their promotion.

Developments that matter

These examples are related to a few trends among the society of today. First of all, people receive more knowledge about every topic you can imagine, due to the digitalisation of the world. Therefore, it gradually makes people aware of the developments that occur in the entire world, for instance in the way that people are suffering from the lack of food in poor areas.

Also the food waste deserves a point of attention, therefore the initiatives like the Ugly Food Shop and the Wonky Veg Box are great examples of a flawsome marketing promotion. Just like highlighting the imperfections in people’s appearance, people want the same for food. Many fruit and vegetables are thrown away just because they have a few blemishes or nobbles on it. Nevertheless, nobody said that the appearance of food influences the taste, do they? It doesn’t have to be appealing to taste great is the main point they want to communicate.

”I’m beautiful on the inside” –  Ugly Food Shop

Changing into a more conscious policy is another much-discussed topic, as the consumer is willing to invest in a better world. As a result of these changes in mentality, the transparency is growing with it. The amount of people that is well-informed about the durability, waste and lack of food is increasing and therefore gradually creates an open world.

Future perspective

If such developments that create a better and honest world keep increasing, the world of tomorrow will be more beautiful than ever. When we all invest in our world, it will become endurable for every single nation. In the best case, the poor regions of today won’t have to deal with famine any more. That will be great, isn’t it?

LEGO City is taking it to the next level

For most children, LEGO City is a tremendous toy brand and especially not a concept which points out anything else than fun toys to play with. When I refer to my early childhood, I remember LEGO City as a nice brand, which had fake humans and that was it. However, they now revealed a new collection which includes a little twist.

A twist?

The new collection is titled ‘Fun in the park’ and shows the world how to turn off gender stereotyping. The entire collection is based on the society as we know it today, for instance the dad is staying at home and the mom is at her work. The collection was unveiled at the New York Toy Fair and will be launched in August this year.

Why is this surprising?

LEGO City is putting it forward, as it is tending to make a change in mentality. Other collections consisted of stereotyped toys, for instance the mother who was taking care of her child at home. SØren Torp Laursen, President of LEGO systems, stated that LEGO is listening to its consumer base and that they are willing to portray the world around us like it actually is. That means LEGO displays the toys like the real world. Moreover, this collection is a great example of the trend the open world, since it perfectly represents the transparency LEGO points out.

Furthermore, there is another example which appeared a bit earlier. The dolls from the famous brand Barbie also highlights the same value as LEGO does. Barbie created some new dolls in different shapes and sizes, since the society demands that size doesn’t matter.

1545882

Barbie dolls in different shapes and sizes

What will be next?

If even more toy brands will launch some more realistic collections, it can cause a difference in the future. Imagine that every brand only got collections based on the real world; the children of today will remember that everybody is different, but that’s okay. Eventually, the self-esteem of many children may improve just by such an adaption.

What is your opinion about new adjustments in toy collections?

Quality of Life – Appearance

Hello everyone,

This post is about the quality of life of my cool hunts from the sector Appearance. I will use the Felce and Perry model again, just like I did before. This post is a specific school assignment and therefore I will continue this post in Dutch.

Quality of life

good one

QoL model Felce and Perry

Glitter is gold

4 fashion labels & 3 asylum seekers

Let’s be game changers

Fashion: age doesn’t matter

Amy Melenboer ♥

Fashion: age doesn’t matter

Giorgio-Armani-New-Normal-Spring-2016-Campaign01

The main point

As the supermodels are turning into a product of the fashion industry, there will be specific rules to follow. For instance the models should be young, skinny, long and especially good looking. However, Armani does the controversy; it returns to its roots by dressing the models the rest of the fashion industry ignores. The four models for the New Normal collection include Eva Herzigova, Stella Tennant, Yasmin Le Bon and Nadja Auermann, all past the age of 40.

Supermodels can make a statement

The standard in fashion has been changed over the years, as we saw much younger models the last few years. At its worst, there was even a 10-Year old model on the cover of the French Vogue. Do you remember Thylane Lena Rose Bondeau in the picture below? After all, the editor received lots of criticism after it was published.

thylane-lena-rose-blondeau

Thylane Lena Rose Bondeau in the French Vogue

Nevertheless, this standard gradually changes into a more natural woman, who isn’t that young and doesn’t wears size zero. More likely is the new campaign of Armani, in which the brand is turning into its roots and give the models, who all past the age of 40, a new opportunity to shine bright. Also three supermodels of the fashion brand Balmain were rocking the upcoming spring/summer 2016 collection as well. The ‘90s most iconic supermodels Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer and Naomi Campbell were reunited for a little moment! The beautiful thing about different brands who are returning their ‘older’ models, is that they still can be beautiful at their age. They emphasize that ageing is natural, it is a part of life and not something you have to cover.

balmain-superbowl-ad

Identity based on roles

Maggie Rizer, a previous all-American model, returned into the pages of Vogue in 2015. However, this time she returns modelling as a mother. She points out the same essence as the models from Armani and Balmain, namely that it doesn’t matter what you are or how old you are, it is all about the way you represent the best version of yourself. Another example of turning into another type of identity is the 85-year old Chinese man, who is a resident of rural Fujian Province. The identity of this man is known as a farmer, however after a photoshoot taken by XiaoYeJieXi he turned into an inspiring fashion icon.

As you can see, identity is not based on one particular thing, and it should be appreciate a little bit more.

See you next time,

4 fashion labels & 3 asylum seekers

Four labels and three asylum seekers..?

In the fashion show of Generation Africa, which is an event that celebrates the creativity of starting fashion labels in Africa, there were three asylum seekers to walk the show as well. The show, which was between 12 and 15 January, featured four African designer labels (AKJP, Ikiré Jones, Lukhanyo Mdinigi x Nicholas Coutts and U.Mi-1) in collaboration with the Ethical Fashion Initiative and the Italian Pitti Uomo 89 in Florence.

1156095

Lukhanyo Mdingi x Nicholas Coutts backstage at Generation Africa

The ugly truth becoming beautiful

The world of today is full of terrorism, anxiety and with several attacks on innocent humans. If there’s one subject which is regularly in the news, then it is about asylum seekers all around the world. The perspectives differ from each other, however the negative part is highlighted more often than the positive one.

One can say various things, nevertheless there is also a part which is beneficial to fashion. Generation Africa is an example of a positive consequence of the asylum seekers, while they have the opportunity to reduce stereotypes and preconceptions. If you dress an asylum seeker into a creation of an emerging fashion label, who knew it was a refugee in the first place? Exactly, only the staff behind the scenes knew, and that explains why stereotypes are not always true. In a term of shifting identities, an asylum seeker is also a human, a father, a hard worker and as equal as others. The identity of an asylum seeker will never change, however the way the society looks at them does change in this matter.

NEWS_generationafrica

How this can make a change

The Ethical Fashion Initiative strives for a fairer global fashion industry and supports the society by improving the diversity in the fashion industry itself. They gave emerging fashion labels from Africa the change to show their creativity and fashion knowledge in the first place. The actual ‘problem’ of the large number of asylum seekers was a known fact which resulted in three models in addition.

If this will gradually improve the fashion industry by combining fashion from all around the world, wearing fashion by different people from all around the world, eventually the fashion industry will point out the equality of human. In that case, the fashion industry will be a beautiful example for the entire world to strive for equality.

Queer healing salon

What is the essence?

Sometimes, being a queer is hard to deal with, especially when some people in your community don’t fully accept your disposition for instance. Queers got a lot to do with both verbal- and physical violence, but why does this still happen in 2016? A few among the LGBT-group (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) made up some objections and celebrations, and they are truly willing to strive after a complete acceptation for all queers. The French Allison was of the opinion that such celebrations and objections were not enough for all queers, she wanted them to relax and invented a little recreation day which she calls ‘queer healing salon’ which is located in Amsterdam. In this salon they can get a new haircut, a massage, a manicure and there is also the opportunity to read, joining the karaoke and last but not least go to a real reiki-session.

untitled-article-1452864105

Why is this surprising?

Most of the time groups like the LGBT one are being ignored, hated and disapproved. This conception started way earlier, though it is still a point of attention nowadays. It can be explained due to a psychological reason, for instance the ‘we and they’ rule is one which sounds pretty familiar to many people. If a person or group has got another way of thinking, they are easily labelled as different of weird. However, Allison invented a salon which is only for queers. This change is clearly positive for all queers, while they are being valued highly. Allison points out that masculinity and femininity are not guidelines or based on rules, it are labels that the society gave us years ago.

This queer healing salon is based on the fact that racism and inappropriate behaviour is still among the society. Allison saw the change to create a statement by doing the controversy of what a large amount of the community thinks is good. She has a few rules:

‘If you think this all is useless, then you’re not welcome. If you think the reactions of the people are oversensitive or political correct, guess what? Then you’re not welcome either.’

This indicates that our mentality should be improved by knowledge and a progressive attitude. Striving for emancipation is still a current point of attention, and in my opinion, it will be for a little while.

images

Future proof?

As I said, the mentality of many people can use some boost or acquaintance, as yet queers are being treated badly. However, there are made a few progressions such the gay pride, which defines the emancipation of the gay nature. The festive spirit increases, and so does the attitude of many. Nevertheless, will queers (like the LGBT group) be fully accepted in future?

What is your opinion on the queer case?

Let’s be game changers

Essena1

What is it about?

Earlier I wrote a post which called ‘open-heartedness’.  Essena O’Neill was one of the items I discussed in this post, and now I will write about her counter reaction ‘Let’s be game changers’.  Essena O’Neill is a former Instagram star and model, but she recently stopped with all this fake pictures and videos of her. It didn’t make her happy, and she even felt lonely and very empty inside. Essena O’Neill quitted social media and was started posting videos about how crooked this business is.  However, she is now going a bit further and started the counterpart ‘Let’s be game changers’, wherein she encourages everyone to stop with their busy, social media life and start with creating a real world.

Essena O’Neill telling why she is quitting social media:

Why is it refreshing?

It is Essena O’Neill herself that started with her social life, however she is also the one who realized that her Instagram account was not her real life, but a life she had created to make her feel good about herself.  It needed a brave and powerful character to make this change in mentality. Essena O’Neill is now becoming an identity who is trying to tell the world that we’re fooling ourselves, and perhaps this might work and influence other people.

Essena was an Instagram star with a lot of fake and obsessive pictures, but is now the other way around. Her true story is very transparent and honest, something which she was never before. Much more of these personal stories are emerging nowadays, and in my opinion, that is a good thing.  True beauty is what you are from the inside, and not from the outside. At least, that should be the main point, which is still debatable.

What will the future be like?

It is often said that status means that you are what you do regularly, but is this quite transparent? If this is 100% true, everybody can think of something he or she always wanted to do, and ‘create’ an identity. In that case, our world seems really to be a doable community.

Nevertheless, such breakthroughs like the story of Essena O’Neill can also inspire people and eventually end up with a mentality shift for a whole community, nation or in the best case, the whole world. Then it is time to see beauty as something which is based upon our characters, and no longer on the way we look.

Essena O’Neill: ‘Let’s be game changers’

To conclude, I think we arrived a point of division. Either the world will be more creating an identity in a doable society, or pure beauty will only be based on our character in a transparent community.

Glitter is gold

HG-cicatrices-filage-150513

Marie/ Hélène Gugenheim

What does it mean?

Hélène Gugenheim, a French artist from Paris, created a beautiful way to apply a tattoo on different people who have scars on their body. Gugenheim used golf leaf which she applied on the scar, by mixing gold leaf, varnish and epoxy so it can also be taking of immediately. The French artist started to call this method ‘a ritual’, because it also emphasizes the psychological advantages. It is usual to have a photoshoot which also includes making a short video.  After that, the artist removes all the glitter and gold and puts it in a little bottle which is a gift for the visitor.  Hélène Gugenheim calls her project: ‘Je suis d’elles, entièrement tissé’ (My scars, I am with them, completely entwined)

slide_473238_6449834_free

Why is it amazing?

The golden leaf tattoo is tempting to make the specific person more conscious of them self, just by looking in the mirror and seeing how beautiful someone really is. The values of our society are gradually changing, while perfection is slowly changing into imperfection. Scars are a great example of this imperfection, since it used to have a negative look on a person’s history. However, who said scars should be negative? Scars could also be seen as a mistake in life, where every single person can learn from.  Making mistakes should not be labelled as something which is bad, nevertheless it can be seen as a lesson in life.

In that case, imperfection is now becoming more and more beautiful, since people have the guts to be transparent and just say what’s on their mind and show all their flaws. It is more natural to show the real identities nowadays, instead of hiding all the ‘blemishes’ a person think he or she has. Authenticity is growing for a while, and the term ‘flawsomeness’ is also tending to make a change in the world we know now. Because of these changes, people’s identity can make a shift, while they no longer have to think about their scars.

Future perspective

In former times, people were usually raised narrow-minded, for instance in the way men were more important than women.  The destiny of a woman was not that great as a men’s destiny. However, it was a specific spirit of that time, and that was just the way it went. Another example was the Dutch compartmentalisation, which indicates a society based on different compartments. Such a ‘tribe’ got their own status, religion, school and other persuasions. People were critical about each other, and only their own compartment was seen as the best of all factions.

Nevertheless, these things changed gradually trough ages and are now represented a bit different. An example of this change is feminism, a kind of emancipation for all women’s rights. The women of today are more independent, better educated and mainly stronger than ever. Also groups like LTGB (Lesbian, transgender, gay and bisexual) people receive more acceptation nowadays, however this is still not completed in my opinion.

So that will let us think about the upcoming ages. If this acceptation will set through, what will the future be like? In that case, no one will ever be critical about people’s skin colour, education, background, disposition or all these other parts of someone’s identity.  Perhaps, equality will be the leading policy in every city, area or nation.  The future will bring us equality in its most straight condition.

See you next time,

Future Feminism

03_future_is_female_930

Who remembers the slogan ´Who run the world? Girls!’ by Beyoncé? It is a typical song from the 21st century, since the early feminism resulted in a bunch of women with a strong and independent opinion. However, still not every nation is in favour of the liberation of the female sex. The question is how the world can improve the attitude against women in general. Due to this problem, the ‘the future is female’ T-shirts are re-emerging, with Cara Delevinghe as example.

The future is female…?

Consistent with the New York Times, the T-shirt was made for Labyris Books, the first women’s bookstore in New York City. The slogan ‘the future is female’ was invented, since it proposed to make a statement. Photographer Liza Cowan made a picture from her girlfriend in 1975, which recently appears on the Instagram account of h e r s t o r y, which is about lesbian images. The T-shirt is also going viral, due to Cara Delevinghe wearing it.  This slogan refers to a picture from 1975, nevertheless it still occupies the population nowadays.

My beautiful picture

Why is it overwhelming?

Express oneself

Feminism is a term which indicates a specific time in our history, when a few women stood up for women’s rights. It is thinkable that authenticity was an important social significance back then, in the same way it is now.  Cara Delevinghe, British model and actress, is a great example of a celebrity who has an authentic character.  Moreover, her Instagram account describes different quotes, such as ‘stop labelling, start living’.  According to Vogue, Cara is the reason why feminism is coming to light again.

18TSHIRT3-blog427

Getting involved

An earlier signal which declares the modern feminism is the song ‘Run the world’ by Beyoncé.  She took care of all the women whom she inspired by that time, just by her strength and clear proclamation.  She encouraged the women to back oneself, since some people in the world did otherwise.  In this manner, female sexes could be transparent about their personal situation. Cool curation is of great worth in this situation, since it includes people expressing themselves for other people.

Run the world – Beyoncé

Future perspective

Feminism is a trend which lasts for many, many years now. When one remembers the history book at high school, you probably will know the well-known feminist Aletta Jacobs. Ever since, the liberation of the female sex is a fact. Actually, it has never ended. In former times, it all started with small changes, wherein women received more rights step-by-step. These steps are gradually becoming a dedication to all female radicals. For instance, according to Het Parool, a Dutch newspaper, it is announced that Amsterdam is supporting the emancipation of all women and girls by a gift of 400.000€ (approximately $425840). As said before, different people (often women) participate this trend by including personal support.

Overall, women receive more respect bit-by-bit. If you are in favour of the expansion of women’s rights, and you think women should be seen as strong, independent women, use the hashtag #futureisfemale. Besides, you can buy sweaters and T-shirts with the ‘’the future is female’’ design at Otherwild. Click here for the link.

Macho 29: a topless crew

Have you ever witnessed a bunch of topless, Japanese waiters in a restaurant before? I bet you won’t. Normally, the workforce are clothed in simple outfits with often a bit boring colours.  This can be disappointing in a kind of way. How can a restaurant create attractive looking waiters that give customers an experience? The solution is closer than we think, since Macho 29 invented a topless crew!

15-jun-idolos-machos-marombados-05

Meet the crew!

A topless staff, what is that like?

Worldwide TV has shown that the company ‘Macho Restaurant’ is upgrading their food service by means of serving fine food trough shirtless men. The Macho restaurant is located in Japan and established this year. This concept gives the customers a great experience while entering their restaurant.  Earlier this year, they opened the Macho Café, where there will be served with tiny tank tops. Besides, they also took over an ice shave shop, where ice-cold treats are served.

macho_logo

Macho twenty-nine

Why is this so refreshing?

First of all, it is an experience in the product. Normally, having a lunch or dinner at a restaurant is nothing else but enjoying your meal, your company and the atmosphere. Nevertheless, Macho Restaurant changed the regular way of serving food into a whole new experience.  For instance the ´Macho-ed Eggs Double Bicep Flavor’, which also indicates the muscular bodies from the crew. However, there’s more. If you want the total experience, you should visit the Macho ice shave shop. In this shop they crush the ice by using their hands and a crutch, whereupon the syrup is being poured. Isn’t this amazing?!

waincem7o354lrbduljn

a little presentation

Moreover, the tip of the iceberg has yet to come:  for $4 you have the opportunity to create a 15-minute conversation with your personal waiter.  However, if you want to go all the way, it is also possible to buy yourself a circle of men around you, which they call the famous ‘Wall of Meat’.  This may be an attractive offer to all the single ladies among us.

To conclude, if you want a full experience during your dinner in a restaurant (and you are able to go all the way to Japan), you should definitely visit Macho 29. For a sneak preview click here.  There you can see a short video about the shirtless waiters in the Macho Restaurant. Enjoy!
