Trace my fries

The main point

‘Trace my fries’ is an idea from Lamb Weston, a provider from frozen potatoes. He launched a website based on the fact that people want to know where their food comes from nowadays. ‘Trace my fries’ creates an opportunity for all consumers to receive more knowledge about the origin from a product. When sitting in a restaurant you receive a specific code which is related to the food you eat. This code can be filled in on the ‘trace my fries’ website, whereupon you precisely find the information about your ordered dish. Furthermore, the website offers producers customizable merchandise as an inspiration, such as go-to stickers, server training and chalkboards.

trace-my-fries

The ‘Trace My Fries’ page

 Why does it arise now?

Such an initiative does not appear spontaneously, as it refers to another mentality trend. In our society, distrust and anger is more and more shown owing to some incidents. Companies have been lying about product information, for instance in which circumstances the food has been produced. Due to this, people demand for more transparency and openness. Lamb Weston creates a way to be completely open about the origin of the potatoes, and people can look up very specific information about the food. For example, the areas where the potatoes are produced are highlighted and also some reasons why those areas are great places to produce potatoes. Different aspects of the benefits of the environment in the five regions in North America are being told in addition.

Lamb Weston is open about his origin of food, and also prefers a sustainable way of manufactering. According to this transparency, he made a video about the commitment to sustainability inside his company:

Continuation

If the trend transparency is putting it to the next level, it might cause a shift in the future. Due to an example as ‘trace my fries’, there won’t be any secrets among the food business in the hereafter. Also the credibility of companies may grow, since they are gathering some trust from the consumers by doing the controversy of what they abominate. Such a development can eventually result in a shift as regards the rivalry between companies. At the moment, many food businesses compete by highlighting the authenticity they have or create. In the future, authenticity may not be the point of discussion, yet the product origin is.  In that case, a company with the most transparent policy and the most honest and sustainable products will win the battle.

Queer healing salon

What is the essence?

Sometimes, being a queer is hard to deal with, especially when some people in your community don’t fully accept your disposition for instance. Queers got a lot to do with both verbal- and physical violence, but why does this still happen in 2016? A few among the LGBT-group (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) made up some objections and celebrations, and they are truly willing to strive after a complete acceptation for all queers. The French Allison was of the opinion that such celebrations and objections were not enough for all queers, she wanted them to relax and invented a little recreation day which she calls ‘queer healing salon’ which is located in Amsterdam. In this salon they can get a new haircut, a massage, a manicure and there is also the opportunity to read, joining the karaoke and last but not least go to a real reiki-session.

untitled-article-1452864105

Why is this surprising?

Most of the time groups like the LGBT one are being ignored, hated and disapproved. This conception started way earlier, though it is still a point of attention nowadays. It can be explained due to a psychological reason, for instance the ‘we and they’ rule is one which sounds pretty familiar to many people. If a person or group has got another way of thinking, they are easily labelled as different of weird. However, Allison invented a salon which is only for queers. This change is clearly positive for all queers, while they are being valued highly. Allison points out that masculinity and femininity are not guidelines or based on rules, it are labels that the society gave us years ago.

This queer healing salon is based on the fact that racism and inappropriate behaviour is still among the society. Allison saw the change to create a statement by doing the controversy of what a large amount of the community thinks is good. She has a few rules:

‘If you think this all is useless, then you’re not welcome. If you think the reactions of the people are oversensitive or political correct, guess what? Then you’re not welcome either.’

This indicates that our mentality should be improved by knowledge and a progressive attitude. Striving for emancipation is still a current point of attention, and in my opinion, it will be for a little while.

images

Future proof?

As I said, the mentality of many people can use some boost or acquaintance, as yet queers are being treated badly. However, there are made a few progressions such the gay pride, which defines the emancipation of the gay nature. The festive spirit increases, and so does the attitude of many. Nevertheless, will queers (like the LGBT group) be fully accepted in future?

What is your opinion on the queer case?

Glitter is gold

HG-cicatrices-filage-150513

Marie/ Hélène Gugenheim

What does it mean?

Hélène Gugenheim, a French artist from Paris, created a beautiful way to apply a tattoo on different people who have scars on their body. Gugenheim used golf leaf which she applied on the scar, by mixing gold leaf, varnish and epoxy so it can also be taking of immediately. The French artist started to call this method ‘a ritual’, because it also emphasizes the psychological advantages. It is usual to have a photoshoot which also includes making a short video.  After that, the artist removes all the glitter and gold and puts it in a little bottle which is a gift for the visitor.  Hélène Gugenheim calls her project: ‘Je suis d’elles, entièrement tissé’ (My scars, I am with them, completely entwined)

slide_473238_6449834_free

Why is it amazing?

The golden leaf tattoo is tempting to make the specific person more conscious of them self, just by looking in the mirror and seeing how beautiful someone really is. The values of our society are gradually changing, while perfection is slowly changing into imperfection. Scars are a great example of this imperfection, since it used to have a negative look on a person’s history. However, who said scars should be negative? Scars could also be seen as a mistake in life, where every single person can learn from.  Making mistakes should not be labelled as something which is bad, nevertheless it can be seen as a lesson in life.

In that case, imperfection is now becoming more and more beautiful, since people have the guts to be transparent and just say what’s on their mind and show all their flaws. It is more natural to show the real identities nowadays, instead of hiding all the ‘blemishes’ a person think he or she has. Authenticity is growing for a while, and the term ‘flawsomeness’ is also tending to make a change in the world we know now. Because of these changes, people’s identity can make a shift, while they no longer have to think about their scars.

Future perspective

In former times, people were usually raised narrow-minded, for instance in the way men were more important than women.  The destiny of a woman was not that great as a men’s destiny. However, it was a specific spirit of that time, and that was just the way it went. Another example was the Dutch compartmentalisation, which indicates a society based on different compartments. Such a ‘tribe’ got their own status, religion, school and other persuasions. People were critical about each other, and only their own compartment was seen as the best of all factions.

Nevertheless, these things changed gradually trough ages and are now represented a bit different. An example of this change is feminism, a kind of emancipation for all women’s rights. The women of today are more independent, better educated and mainly stronger than ever. Also groups like LTGB (Lesbian, transgender, gay and bisexual) people receive more acceptation nowadays, however this is still not completed in my opinion.

So that will let us think about the upcoming ages. If this acceptation will set through, what will the future be like? In that case, no one will ever be critical about people’s skin colour, education, background, disposition or all these other parts of someone’s identity.  Perhaps, equality will be the leading policy in every city, area or nation.  The future will bring us equality in its most straight condition.

Future Feminism

03_future_is_female_930

Who remembers the slogan ´Who run the world? Girls!’ by Beyoncé? It is a typical song from the 21st century, since the early feminism resulted in a bunch of women with a strong and independent opinion. However, still not every nation is in favour of the liberation of the female sex. The question is how the world can improve the attitude against women in general. Due to this problem, the ‘the future is female’ T-shirts are re-emerging, with Cara Delevinghe as example.

The future is female…?

Consistent with the New York Times, the T-shirt was made for Labyris Books, the first women’s bookstore in New York City. The slogan ‘the future is female’ was invented, since it proposed to make a statement. Photographer Liza Cowan made a picture from her girlfriend in 1975, which recently appears on the Instagram account of h e r s t o r y, which is about lesbian images. The T-shirt is also going viral, due to Cara Delevinghe wearing it.  This slogan refers to a picture from 1975, nevertheless it still occupies the population nowadays.

My beautiful picture

Why is it overwhelming?

Express oneself

Feminism is a term which indicates a specific time in our history, when a few women stood up for women’s rights. It is thinkable that authenticity was an important social significance back then, in the same way it is now.  Cara Delevinghe, British model and actress, is a great example of a celebrity who has an authentic character.  Moreover, her Instagram account describes different quotes, such as ‘stop labelling, start living’.  According to Vogue, Cara is the reason why feminism is coming to light again.

Getting involved

An earlier signal which declares the modern feminism is the song ‘Run the world’ by Beyoncé.  She took care of all the women whom she inspired by that time, just by her strength and clear proclamation.  She encouraged the women to back oneself, since some people in the world did otherwise.  In this manner, female sexes could be transparent about their personal situation. Cool curation is of great worth in this situation, since it includes people expressing themselves for other people.

Run the world – Beyoncé

Future perspective

Feminism is a trend which lasts for many, many years now. When one remembers the history book at high school, you probably will know the well-known feminist Aletta Jacobs. Ever since, the liberation of the female sex is a fact. Actually, it has never ended. In former times, it all started with small changes, wherein women received more rights step-by-step. These steps are gradually becoming a dedication to all female radicals. For instance, according to Het Parool, a Dutch newspaper, it is announced that Amsterdam is supporting the emancipation of all women and girls by a gift of 400.000€ (approximately $425840). As said before, different people (often women) participate this trend by including personal support.

Overall, women receive more respect bit-by-bit. If you are in favour of the expansion of women’s rights, and you think women should be seen as strong, independent women, use the hashtag #futureisfemale. Besides, you can buy sweaters and T-shirts with the ‘’the future is female’’ design at Otherwild. Click here for the link.

A personal touch with Matchmaker

Nowadays, people often go to events and festivals such as the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE). Either, these events have got a large amount of activities, which may be a problem by selecting your preferences.  Everybody who visits events like these, can imagine the frustration when he or she can’t choose between the assortments. The question is how events can improve their concept in a way that it results in easily choosing your preferences.  Now there’s  a decent solution: the Matchmaker for ADE.

ms_ade_news_insta-595x595

The start screen of Matchmaker for ADE

What Matchmaker is all about

Matchmaker is created by Mark Schoones and launched by Music State, which is an online music magazine.  Matchmaker can be seen as a guidance, since it claims to filter through the content of the Amsterdam Dance Event. In this manner, visitors will be exposed to a variety of styles by participating an interactive quiz. Until now, Matchmaker can only be handled by customers of the Amsterdam Dance Event, as this was the first draft. This personal guidance is manufactured, since the large amount of activities turned into less satisfaction. For instance, visitors did not have the opportunity to successfully scan through all the index.

What makes Matchmaker astonishing?

-Personal taste

Due to the personal preferences, Matchmaker indicates two separate choices download (2)for the visitor. He or she has to choose between the opportunities as they pop up in your screen. Music State takes into account that people have different meanings and this known fact is in correlation with the authenticity of the human being.  For example, some want to enjoy a specific music style and others want to sit back and relax with a beer in their hand.

-Involvement

Besides, Matchmaker also tends to be a personal information guide which you can use during the event. It is a virtual site which visitors can seek through as they require some assistance. This involvement between the consumers and (in this case) the Amsterdam Dance Event is an example of the trend Cool curation, which basically encloses that people receive some guidance to keep them in track.

-Intensive world

Moreover, the world seems to be and act like a rollercoaster ride. Matchmaker manages to keep up with this intensification trend by avoiding stress when people have to select.  Due to this intensification, the paradox of choice is witnessed more often. Matchmaker adapts to this problem, by giving two opportunities instead of a whole bunch of possibilities.

ms_fb_seoding

-Future

The Matchmaker may improve the quality of life, since the filter can create more satisfaction with the consumers, as they have less stress with choosing. Furthermore, Matchmaker has a great growth potential as they are claiming that it can be utilized with more and more events.

Overall, Matchmaker is able to be the first filter which offers visitors a personal guidance at events.  For an easy explanation click here , so that you can see how Matchmaker works.

Experience: Berlijn Café

Hello everyone,

?

Berlijn Café Tilburg

This week I was visiting the Berlijn Café in Tilburg, while we had to do an assignment about experience. The main point is that we should visit a location which may give you an experience, such as a little, authentic shop or for instance an escape room (which is totally hot right now!).  All these products and services are related to the upcoming trend ‘experience economy’, which means that companies are trying and willing to get consumers involved with the daily commodities.

The other part of this blogpost will be in Dutch, as the appointment follows a specific model we have to fill in and give a clarification to.

Beleef de beleving: Berlijn Café

belevenismodel

Let’s find out!

Deel 1: Belevenis

Inhoud

Waarden: Humor, vrijheid, gezelligheid, creativiteit, authenticiteit, variatie, betrokkenheid

Vorm

?

Chocolademousse chai & apple crumle

Amy Melenboer

Open-heartedness: influencing the society

Hello everyone,

This blogpost is about more signals, in contrast to the blogposts so far. I’ve found a few signals that I could combine, so I created a blogpost that is worth reading!

What is it about?

Previous week I saw a programme on the Dutch television called ‘Pauw’. One of the guests was Anke Laterveer, whom is a Dutch comedian. She spoke about a moment in her life which she cannot forget, namely that somebody unknown tried to rape her. However, the main concern is that the police didn’t do a thing with the declaration. That’s the main reason she wanted to make raping and sexual assault bookable. She decided to think of a way to get more attention about this problem, and invented the Dutch #zeghet on Twitter (which means #sayit). After this invention the #zeghet was going viral and a large amount of people picked up this hashtag.

Besides, the NOS news programme announced that Essena O’Neil, an Australian Instagram-model with half a million followers, decided to quit with Instagram because it is fake, straight nonsense and absolutely not real life.  Essena was too obsessed with her ‘perfect life’ by getting more and more followers. For instance, she was also being paid for wearing a dress she doesn’t even like.

tumblr_inline_nx9hk9BRAx1tcrsd9_1280.png.cf

– Essena O’Neil

Moreover, I was searching for more of these open-hearted stories, and found on Youngworkers.com  an article about ‘perfectly imperfect’. This movement is tending to say that young people are done with the advertising about perfection, such as having the smallest size or the prettiest face. One of the innovators of this countermovement is Shaun Ross, an African guy who is an albino and started his own movement called #inmyskiniwin. Ross: ‘Beauty is you and what you make from your confidence in your own perfectly imperfect body. Together, if we encourage others to love what they see when they look at themselves, we can win in our skin’

image_25933d2d-c39b-4b18-a537-b4929cbf9066_1024x1024

The movement #inmyskiniwin by Shaun Ross

The reasons for an overload of awesomeness

But, why is this combination of stories that awesome? First of all, it is about the courage that people have and the risk they take when they tell such personal stories as these. There will always be laggards, people with a conservative view on the world, who don’t give their approval to these sophisticated and ground-breaking announcements. That’s why I find this people incredibly powerful. In addition to this, these stories are related to different subjects of the trend involvement.

Authenticity

The first trend I want to maintain is authenticity. All these personal narrations are about being honest and open-hearted, so that people can (finally) tell the truth and the essence of their background. For instance, Shaun Ross is being bullied in former times, but now found the strength to make his opinion public.  It is about transparency, no longer hiding information or forge aspects of life. Just like Essena O’Neil, who fooled the whole world with her falsified pictures on Instagram.  Nevertheless, we all like to pretend that we have a great life by posting only images which are often photo shopped, revised and even more importantly: which are fake.  Essena had the intention to inspire people by taking them back to reality, which Instagram is absolutely not.

Moreover, even Dutch fashion brand Esprit is trying to make this work. As Esprit is inspired by the ‘perfectly imperfect’ movement, they wanted to think of something cool as well. For that reason the winter campaign of 2015 includes a photo gallery with the hashtag #ImPerfect, where everybody can hand in their picture. This is really innovative and creative at the same time.

#ImPerfect - by E S P R I T

#ImPerfect – by E S P R I T

Flawsomeness

Secondly, showing your flaws is turning into something fascinating. In a world where everybody wants to be seen by being beautiful and more outstanding than others, there is now a turning point. Nobody has to be perfect, because showing your imperfections is way cooler nowadays. The movement #inmyskiniwin from Shaun Ross is an example of these imperfections, whereas pictures are showed of albino’s and people with vitiligo (a skin disease).

Schermafbeelding-2015-10-01-om-09.55.18-600x401

– Shaun Ross

The trend which is of longer existence is intensification. This includes a world which is focussing on ‘the bigger, the better’; a world of great acceleration and progress. The trend flawsomeness contains criticism about the intensification, while sometimes the slogan ‘’less is more’’ will clarify this.

Cool Curation

There are a few more trends that I haven’t discussed yet. These trends aren’t all easy to understand for everybody, and there neither is a relation to every signal.  The Dutch comedian Anke Laterveer introduced the #zeghet, whereby she was the first woman who posted a Twitter post with this hashtag, with the intention to make this story of big interest. She wanted others to do the same, and accordingly to help each other. This has a correlation with the trend cool curation, whereas Laterveer wishes to interact with people. People to the people is the slogan!

Clearly, the #zeghet was going viral on Twitter. This picture will show you the impact of the #zeghet going viral!

864x486

Wonderlust

As the technological developments increase, the world was seem to be influenced by this. Social media is growing incredibly fast, and is becoming a huge part of our lifestyle. The counterpart of this growth is that we now see extremely obsessed people who can be brainwashed by the internet. And I do not exaggerate.  Instagram-model Essena O’Neil is a very clear sample of this obsession. She wanted to ‘break free’ and quitted all of a sudden. This is related to Wonderlust, what can be explained as escaping the internet and creating time to appreciate the little things in life. Here’s a video from Essena about the reasons why she deleted her social media accounts:

As you can see, stories may differ, but in the end everybody wants to be loved for who he or she is.  People want to be unique in their way to show their flaws, and be extraordinary with their own personal story. Are you in?

Close your eyes and shut your mouth, Nothing is Impossible
