Grocery receipts as a healthy tool

We all know the green and blue check marks on different products we find in the grocery stores. There has been a lot of criticism that not all products are healthy choices and therefore the producers have been lying to the consumers. The consumer doesn’t know when they should buy a product or not.

The solution

Hayden Peek, a British designer, invented a new tool to really show the nutritional data of all products you bought in the grocery store. He wants to summarize all the nutritional data on the bottom of a receipt, which are color-coded and indicate a low, medium or high amount of a specific group, such as fat or calories.

The reasons behind

Beside the criticism on the check marks, there has been distrust among consumers for a long time, and not only because of food information. Think of scandals among politics, companies and the bank system for instance. Furthermore, the introduction of the World Wide Web and the additional trend digitalisation have also changed the mentality of many people. Due to this, people are capable of sharing much more information than before. Information is scattered much easier and quicker. If you connect these changes, you can imagine that citizens deeply want the world to be more transparent and honest.

Also, life is busy. The world is more intense than it used to be, for instance in the way people are busy with work. A trip to the grocery store should be easy and quick; which is both included in the solution from Hayden Peek. The nutritional data on the bottom of the receipt gives everybody the opportunity to directly see an overview of the color-coded data.

What will be next?

At first, grocery stores cannot lie about the given information anymore. Besides, due to the confrontation on the bottom of the receipt, you can imagine that consumers will think twice during the next visit at the grocery store. If people receive more information and develop more knowledge, maybe the world will actually be a healthier one. In that case, the amount of people who are obese can downgrade. The World Health Organisation stated that by the end 2030, 74% of the men and 64% of the women will be overweight or obese. Who doesn’t want that to change?

Do you think this tool is ready to make a huge difference?

50 Things- a trip to the grocery store

Hello everyone,IMG-20151004-WA0009

For my study International Lifestyle Studies we need to practice with being creative. Therefore, we have a book called ”how to be an explorer of the world.” This book is full of crazy exercises which we have to do. Every sector we need to do one of them, so that means I’m going to post 6 of these crazy items this year… starting with this one!

This item is about ”50 things” when walking in your neighborhood, a trip to the grocery store or a trip to the library. As you can see I chose: 50 things about a trip to the grocery store.  And these 50 things are ”things” you would like to tell or mention. It can be a thought, It can be an expression, it can be everything you want.  I wrote down my 50 things on a paper. It isn’t very serious and especially it is just for fun. As you can see in the picture below, you can not read the text that well so I will also write it here in this post.

Watch and enjoy!

50 things about a trip to the grocery store…

Grabbing my bike.  I hate my bike. I hate cycling.  *cycling and cyling and cyling*  for about 5 minutes.

  • Making decision 1: The Albert Heijn or the EM-TE?
  • Making decision 2: A wheelbarrow or a basket?

*searching for the discounts*    All those delicious fruits…. Some of them are way too expensive.    YAAY! My favorite fruit with 50% discount. *little party over here*      Ok. Continue.   What’s for dinner my ♥ ?    Maybe we should try this…..(sees price )….or maybe not.

It is time to start eating healthy, I am going to buy health food today.    Hmm.. What is healthy..?   Fish. I want fish.    Damn you grocery store, where can I find the damn fish?  Oh, here it is. ⇐

?

(Click on it for a better view!)

Fresh fish or frozen fish?    Fresh fish is way more tastier, but frozen fish is way more cheaper.  ($$$$$)

Fresh or cheap – fresh or cheap – cheap or fresh…    OK ENOUGH.    *starts with stone-paper-scissors*  Why do you ALWAYS pick stone?? You freakin’ always do.

Which fresh fish do you want?  No tuna. I hate Tuna.     I prefer salmon, is that all right? 🙂

The ‘’choose consciousness’’ sign is e-ve-ry-where.   Maybe I should take light products.  But. Some teacher told me NOT to do light products… but I don’t remember why ?????

Blegh, all that thinking makes me thirsty.   *Grabs a coke* – *puts back the coke*                                                           Healthy stuff makes me depressed…          WATER,  I. need. Water.  ……..    Yes, I found it!  🙂

Let’s go to the cash desk.   What should I have to pay?   (that’s 9.45 please)     What a dumbass bitch sitting here with her extremely (ugly, ouch, there. I said it) face.

PFFFF. A trip to the grocery store is a NEVER. ENDING.STORY.

(to be continued….)

New in: Share-it! app

What is it?

The new app called ‘’share-it’’ is an app which is based on posting messages on social media. When you download this app, you should write simple messages about a company and post this on networks like Facebook, Twitter and so on.  People most likely write about a company where they´re satisfied about.  In this manner, most of the messages are advertising.  Every company is paying 25 share itcent for a small and simple message, in order that 20 cent is given to UNICEF.  The founders, named Gert Breman and Ferry Gerritsen, decided to involve UNICEF in this concept. UNICEF is taking part because of the meals they´re bringing to especially children in developing countries.  Every post about a company brings in 20 cent, which UNICEF uses to supply food to poor children.

Why is it cool?

This new app is absolutely a cool, new thing to start helping others. There are different trends nowadays which can relate to this app. Think of the term ´´sharing economy´´ which you all must have heard sometimes.  We often are too busy with ourselves and our own success, that we don´t got time to think about the people around us.  It is a pity that our world seems to be an individual one. That is the main reason why the sharing economy is approaching. Another trend is the ‘’social web’’. Many people are posting messages online, searching on the internet, working with companies in foreign countries, simply because our world developed this way. So how easy would it be if this trend is a new start of helping each other out? Just by posting a simple message, like most of us do all day, you can help someone else in a developing country. Isn’t that great?

´We often are too busy with ourselves and our own success, that we don´t got time to think about the people around us. ´

Besides, this whole new way of living is related to a bigger revolution which started way earlier. This sharing economy and social web terms are based on even bigger trends called globalization, togetherness and being inline.  Globalization started way back, when just the infrastructure like airplanes started to be a booming factor. The world seems to be smaller, but we all know this isn’t the truth. It is the network of internet, infrastructure, and social relations which relatively makes the world more compact. Also ´´togetherness´´ is a term which started a bit earlier. There´s a great integration in especially the internet, but the main factor is not only being together in small groups like family and friends, but also in a bigger area.

It is absolutely great that such an easy solution as posting some online messages can be used to feed other people in poor countries. In my opinion we all are going to post something, because being together seems to be more fun than being an individual!Togetherness Community 2-2

Sleep care: a new investigation

What is it?

Sleep care is a new app which inspects the insomnia of people at night and tries to improve the health and quality of life. But, before this new app is available for everybody, there is an investigation. That’s why the Universitsleep carey of Utrecht, the University of Amsterdam and the Technological University of Delft invented the app sleep care. People who have had sleeplessness for at least 3 months and do have an android telephone could co-operate the investigation. The sleep care app is based on earlier therapies, so the question is if this app can be used as a substitutional product.

Why is it cool?

Presently, the society is very hectic, because everything should be going fast, easy and quick. Since the internet is an important aspect of our lifestyle, much of the work changed.  It is obvious that people need time to acclimatize this new way of living. Nevertheless, do we actually have time enough to get used to it? In my opinion, sleeplessness might have increased because of this transition.  If sleep care will be launched as a new app for everybody, it will increase the health of a lot of people on a relatively easy way. An app is way more approachable than going to sleep therapy, so therefore I’ll encourage it truthfully.  The sleep care app matches the trend internet of things, because of the improvements for citizens. A social factor of the internet of things is that it benefits the health care and it gives more clarifying information about you. Besides, the app registers specific sleep rhythms, by using the internet.

In a bigger context, sleep care can be related to long-term trends     like togetherness and being inline, and technology.  Sleep care is an innovative way to help people with sleeping problems. As the technology and online coaching improves more and more, sleep care can be cathogorized as one of the apps which is making progress in the quality of life.

Alzheimer Socks: Two designers with one mission

What is it?

Recently, the ‘’Alzheimer Socks’’ were launched. These socks are an idea from a combination of Alzheimer Nederland, Alzheimer Socks and the VUmc Alzheimercentrum. Many people in the world are struggling with Alzheimer, and that’s why a group of people wanted to think of something new. They wanted something which isn’t only cool and nice to wear, but it also has to have a deeper meaning. The socks are made different from each other, so you recognize how it’s like to have Alzheimer in real life.  I think this meaning of getting involved is awesome.

sok3sok2

Why is it cool?

Alzheimer Socks is an innovative and active way to support people with Alzheimer, what most of the time are people who are a bit older. Have you ever witnessed an Alzheimer patient being happy or pleased with his disease? I guess not. That should be a good reason to undergo the daily problems yourself. This is a good example of being together in one world. Individuals should become groups and Alzheimer patients should feel a lot of understanding and compassion.

beeld_facebook_social_media_posts_500x375

Dutch designers Mart Visser and Frans Molenaar

The social web is another trend which is very thinkable in the Alzheimer situation. Two well-known designers called Frans Molenaar and Mart Visser created two different socks separately, and combined it as a pair. This will result in a massive craziness on the internet, because this has never been made before. It is an interesting fact for me as a beginning trend watcher, that such investments like the Alzheimer Socks are becoming very cool. Now I have to question myself if this is just once or is it a beginning trend? I will keep this one in my mind!

Since 2002, much people from the baby boom generation are turning 65 years old. This is called the greying or obsolescence of the society. For that reason, having a lot of older people, automatically result in a larger amount of people who have a disease like Alzheimer.  This connection between obsolescence and disabilities is a critical known fact. That’s why it is a good thing that somebody stood up and started to do something. And this ‘’something’’ isn’t nothing!

When you became interested in supporting the Alzheimer patients, you should definitely buy a pair of these socks. You can buy these socks at Albert Heijn, V&D, C&A, http://www.debijenkorf.nl and on http://www.alzheimersocks.nl for just €6.99. You should hurry, because the selling already started!!
